The route from Kolkata
The road runs south from Kolkata through the Diamond Harbour side to the ferry point at Lot No. 8. Cars cannot cross, so you take the ferry to Kachuberia on Sagar Island, and a second car drives you on to Gangasagar. We book both cars together, so you do not look for a taxi on the island.
One way, return or a full tour
A one-way cab suits travellers who plan to stay on the island. A return booking suits a long day trip, but the road and the ferry make it a full day, so many pilgrims prefer an overnight stay. For a tour, add a night or two and visit the Kapil Muni temple, the Gangasagar beach and other spots on the island at an easy pace.
Pickup points
We pick you up in Kolkata from Howrah, Sealdah, Dum Dum airport or your hotel, and drop you back on your return. If you come from other states, tell us your train or flight details when you book.
Makar Sankranti and the Mela
The Gangasagar Mela around mid-January brings very large crowds, and cars are in short supply. Book early, and expect longer waiting times at the ferry. Leaving early in the morning helps.
